Rich Desoto

Rich Desoto is the metaverse persona of Rich Palmer. In the earliest days of Second Life a handful of musicians began performing live to curious audiences throughout the grid. Rich wasn’t one of the first, but he indeed was in the second wave of performers.

Found in such places as Old Salt’s Pub, Los Arboles – where he ran an ongoing Monday night open mic with Yxes Delacroix, Crazy Sharks, the very popular Hummingbird Cafe (RIP 2011), Rocky Shores on Cascadia, and even the earliest build of the Blarney Stone stage, Rich performed his original songs, parody remakes of popular covers, and a variety of pop, rock, and folk cover tunes.

Rich became well known around the grid for his SL-inspired tunes “Avatar Girl” and “I Used to Sleep.” Now you can hear him perform them live again!

Rich has returned to Second Life in the last quarter of 2024 to perform a limited schedule of performances. He will fill in when possible for musicians who have RL commitments or an occasional break. He is scheduled for an ongoing run at one of his favorite stages: The Blarney Stone in Dublin.

Performance Schedule

For now, find Rich at the Blarney Stone every other Thursday from 5-6 PM SLT starting Dec. 5, 2024.

Solo Acoustic Musician – Audiobook Series

Rich is collaborating as the narrator with author Michael Nichols on his popular how-to series: Solo Acoustic Musician. You can get the first book free with a new Audible account. Also available at Apple Books.

Production for Book 3 is wrapping up and Book 4 will begin soon. You can find printed versions and e-books at Amazon.

In Solo Acoustic Musician (SAM), Michael Nichols shares his personal experiences and technical know-how gathered from over 30 years as a live performer.

In a straightforward conversational voice, he lays out a dynamic vision for how to make a living and have fun being a SAM. The value of Nichols’ story is found in the small things and minor details. He reveals how to navigate challenges, play to various kinds of audiences, book gigs, and more.

[Nichols’] account of being a SAM closes the gap between starting out and working full time, the timeframe it takes to become a force of success and sustainability.

More than an instructional manual, Solo Acoustic Musician reveals the heart, soul, and passion required to be your own boss, show off your talents, and make money doing what you love.

Book 3 will finish production in early December 2024. Book 4 will begin production immediately after.
