My Name to the Moon?

Cool Video

Stephanie Stockman recently created this video about the project to include a database of names on the next moon trip. These will be included on the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO).

Here’s the video:

My name is in the registry

I posted my name to the registry, so I’m going to the moon. How about you?

NASA invites people of all ages to join the lunar exploration journey with an opportunity to send their names to the moon aboard the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, or LRO, spacecraft.

The Send Your Name to the Moon Web site enables everyone to participate in the lunar adventure and place their names in orbit around the moon for years to come. Participants can submit their information at http://lro.jhuapl.edu/NameToMoon/, print a certificate and have their name entered into a database. The database will be placed on a microchip that will be integrated onto the spacecraft. The deadline for submitting names is June 27, 2008.

My certificate

I registered all the names for my family. Here’s my certificate:

Firefighters gather in Indianapolis for FDIC

Technology in the fire service

Each year, firefighters from around the world converge upon the city of Indianapolis to attend the Fire Department Instructors Conference (FDIC) hosted by Penwell Publications. I have personally attended this several times in the past. It is a fascinating experience to see all of the new technologies being used to protect citizens everywhere.

CBS visits FDIC

CBS has made the following video available for us to share. I enjoy Dave Price’s approach to covering this event. His bravery in trying new things is quite evident as he steps into the role of firefighter.

Thousands of firemen worldwide attend an Indianapolis conference to learn about new products and techniques for saving lives. Dave Price demonstrates some of them.

Already built first widget

Sprout account active!

Just a few hours ago I mentioned that I would like to have an active account on the Sproutbuilder service beta. As it turns out, I received an invite email from them just minutes after I posted!

First widget built

This is a rough go at my first design, but it is great to be able to put together a simple widget for cross-promotion of my upcoming album. This widget plays three “demo” tracks of songs that will be included. It also offers a feed of my “Music Stuff” category from this blog.

Enjoy! And, while you’re here, would you post and share this widget?

UPDATE:
Here’s a wide version of the widget with slideshow feature added.

Sprout Widget and Ben Harper

Waiting for an invite

I’m eagerly awaiting an invite to use the Sprout widget building service. It’s in a closed beta right now. I can say as a musician the tremendous application and use of this service is energizing.

If you have an open invite, please send one on over? I prefer to use the email address safesongs /[at]/ gmail [/dot/] com.

Cool Ben Harper widget

In the meantime, I’m enjoying some time exploring some of the widgets that they are sharing at their gallery page. Here’s one for Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals. I really dig the music player (and quite enjoy these new tracks by Ben, as well)!
