SECONDSTOCK Coming to Second Life

A tribute to music in-world

From the media release

October 7, 2008. Secondstock, Second Life. – “SECONDSTOCK” Music Festival!! 40+ Performers and 3 Days of Peace and Music October 24-26 in Second Life. Many of the top music performers in Second Life will join emerging stars for the First SECONDSTOCK music festival coming the last weekend of October 24-26, 2008. Located on the new Secondstock SIM in Second Life, the site is being transformed into a full region festival playground for those who love to rock and always wished they could have attended the original Woodstock in 1969.

Woodstock. It was the Age of Aquarius. A three day gathering of the greatest musicians of the era performing for 300,000 people on the rolling hills of Max Yasgur’s farm in upstate New York. Journey back to a time of Vietnam War protest music, acid rock, hippies, psychedelically painted school buses, and a music festival called Woodstock – 3 Days of Peace and Music.

Experience a realistic re-creation of the Woodstock music festival with all the ambiance and memories of the original. In Max Yasgur’s barn at Secondstock be sure to visit the exhibit created by the curators of Second Life’s Museum of Music (MUMU) on Infotainment Island. The historical exhibits at the Secondstock barn museum showcase pictures, props, and films from the original Woodstock and the events of the period. Festival visitors can stay at the campground and skinny dip in the Secondstock Lake plus relax under the oak trees at impromptu music sessions around the large fire pit.

Musicians arrive by helicopter to the main stage complete with music towers and a massive performer background display. A large vendor area of open tents provide festival goers the opportunity to purchase psychedelic clothing outfits, hippie paraphernalia, food, accessories, musical instruments, art, textures, jewelry, and other simply groovy stuff.

Neither Woodstock not Secondstock would be complete without plenty of Port-O-San porta potties, rows of outdoor phones, the First Aid tent, and marijuana plants hidden in the cornfields. NO MORE RAIN!! NO MORE RAIN!! Afternoon thunder showers were the norm in upstate New York in the summer of 1969 and at Secondstock as well (along with mud slide fun and craziness). The film documentary made about the original Woodstock won an Academy award and festival goers can relive the film ahead of time with a quick search on YouTube (Woodstock 1969 – 3 Days of Peace and Music).

“SECONDSTOCK intends to be one of Second Life’s biggest and most exciting summer concert events”, says Merck Forager, CEO of Secondstock Entertainment, which is promoting and producing the event.

“We’ve got an unbelievable lineup in the works that celebrates Second Life’s top musical artists,” Forager explains. “We’ve designed an event with a realistic flavor in Second Life that will transport you back in time. This kind of event has been long overdue in Second Life.”

Tickets are free but for more information visit secondstock.blogspot.com. Please come anytime before the festival to look around and to support our vendors. At the music festival be sure to come dressed for the event. Groovy!

See you October 24-26, 2008 at SECONDSTOCK!!

Booty Bay!

Arrrgh, I feel like it should be “Talk Like a Pirate” day!

Tonight, I am playing at the “gallows” (eek?) at Booty Bay! This venue is brand new and brought to us by the same folks (Ty and Baylie) that own the Peppermint Stage at SpunkyBTs in Sicily! I’ve been told I’m the first performer to play this venue. That’s cool!

Also, please remember that you can subscribe to my text announcements direct to your phone! Just look for the little red widget in the right column of my blog site. Or, text the keyword “richdesoto” to 41411 from your text enable mobile. I update these messages on the days that I play shows.

Venue Location for 9/11 Show Changed

Good morning everyone! I was just advised this morning that the venue slurl for the 9/11 show has been moved.

Please look for me at Afterhours at the Fitzgerald, on Unsung Village (201, 71, 21). My show starts at 6 a.m. SLT. I’ll be there before that, though, because wonderful Kim Seifert is on stage before me!

9/11 Tribute in SL

Please join me as I help to wrap up the 24 hour marathon of live music. According to the organizers

This is a memorial tribute to the memory of the victims of 9/11 that will be held in partnership with at least 8 sims (at last count). 24 hours of streaming live music for all 8 sims with all benefits going to the FDNY foundation.

I am absolutely honored to have been invited to play this event. As many of you know, I work in the fire service. The events of September 11, 2001 still remain prevalent in my memory. I was teaching a safety class that morning and can recall the stunned looks in the room when we were told about the first plane striking the World Trade Center. After we released the class, my partner and I went into a neighboring wing and watched the second plane strike.

Please join me as we remember, but also celebrate, the lives of those lost, the victories of the survivors, and obviously, the importance of our Patriotism to the U.S.

My show has been scheduled at Unsung Village (198, 73, 22) at 6:00 a.m. (Second Life time) on 12 September.

My good friend, Kim Seifert will play at 5 a.m. Second Life time. Come early to hear her!

Kim is a singer/song writer who plays acoustic guitar as well as using backing tracks for covers and originals. Her musical style and perosonal sound is well suited for high energy country rock, and this is where she shines and has the most fun. Her dynamic voice will have your heart singing with joy, and your feet dancing out of control. Polished and clean, with excellent range and emotional power, Kim’s performance will take you away.

I believe that Mike00 Carnell will finish the 24 hour event immediately following my set.

Mike has been playing the guitar for about 17 years. In real life, he plays in a Band called Jazzmanix. They play very different things from Swing, Funk, Blues to “Rock”. In SL, Mike plays his fantastic Fender Strat USA deluxe and earlier in the day, his new Taylor 414ce electro acoustic guitar. He plays tunes from his favorite musician, Eric Clapton, some funky songs, a few slow instrumental soft rock songs and some other rock songs.

Hey Rich! Where Ya Been?

Well…

I’ve been everywhere, man.
I’ve been everywhere, man.
Crossed the desert’s bare, man.
I’ve breathed the mountain air, man.
Of travel I’ve had my share, man.
I’ve been everywhere.

Okay, maybe not that dramatic (and thank you Johnny Cash), but I have absolutely worn myself out traveling this summer.

I’ve been to Boston twice — by car, no less — and to Indianapolis. I’ve been to Wisconsin Dells and to Reno. I’ve spent more time in cars and planes this year than I’ve spent in the last five combined, it seems.

So, all that aside, I’ve not been performing much (or even visiting) in Second Life. It has actually been a nice break, but I’m ready to get back to the swing of things. I’ll be doing more shows as schedules permit. If you are a venue owner in SL, give me a shout. I’m sure you’re already booked for most of September (it seems the number of SL performers has tripled since summer began), but if you have something in mind, we can look at the calendar.

I’ll be co-hosting Open Mic at the Lonely Yak Texas Roadhouse each Monday night with Yxes Delacroix, as usual.
By the way: I hate that roadhouse spam site that keeps picking up my blog posts with no attribution every time I mention the word. Stop it you sleazebags. This message courtesy of Rich Desoto.

Hope to see you all at a show sometime soon!

RFL Show Posted

I posted some of last night’s Relay for Life performance. I did not include cover tunes (for copyright reasons), but did include most of the original material that I performed. I also edited out much of the banter and two of the tunes in order for the show to fit into the SproutBuilder widget that I use.

You can find the performance in the sidebar of this blog page. Look for the title “Listen to Past Shows!” If you were unable to attend the performance, please enjoy the encore! Thanks!
