Passionate police officer dies of cancer

Trotwood residents, particularly the younger ones, have lost a dedicated public servant.
Detective James “Jamie” Faulkner died early April 23 of cancer.
“He was a dedicated officer and a decent man,” Police Chief Quincy Pope said last week of the 13-year veteran of the department.
Mr. Faulkner started his career as a police dispatcher, working his way up to patrol officer and detective. His last duty involved the investigation of sexual assaults on children.
“He worked his cases with a passion,” Pope said. During his years with the department, Faulkner often worked with children, Pope said. He was a school resource officer and started the department’s juvenile diversion program.
“He built bridges between the department and the school. He had a passion for keeping kids out of the system,” the chief said.
Mr. Faulkner also taught sociology at Sinclair Community College and lectured on child abuse to medical students at Wright State University School of Medicine. “He wanted those new doctors to know what to look for,” Pope said.
“He was a man who walked the talk,” Pope said.
The Trotwood-Madison schools are sponsoring a blood drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 15 in memory of Mr. Faulkner. Anyone 16 years and older is invited to donate blood at the high school.
