Last night I had the honor to play for the Relay for Life closing ceremonies in Second Life. I played on the stage at the RFL Treatment sim. The closing ceremonies are taking place this entire weekend, so you still have time to participate or see the events as of the time this is posted. There is a LiveStream broadcast taking place, courtesy of Treet.tv at the Relay for Life web site, as well.

I would like to share that performance with you, but I ask that you do one thing. Go HERE to donate to the American Cancer Society page dedicated to Relay for Life in Second Life. Your money goes directly to the American Cancer Society to help fund initiatives to find a cure for Cancer.

It seems that outside activities beyond work, family, home and church are going to have to take a back seat (does that leave any time?). There is no possible way that I can get this project done if I don’t fully focus on it whenever and however possible.

Once the songs are fully recorded, produced, and available I will start doing Second Life and video performances on the internetz. Until then, I’m going to be finishing this album.

This year’s event will again be held at the PSU World Campus in SL. I’m pleased to be back at this event for my fourth year.

The Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon, affectionately referred to as THON, is a yearlong effort to raise funds and awareness for the fight against pediatric cancer. It has been discovered that she doesn’t have health insurance to cover this challenge. Because it will be considered a preexisting condition she will find it very difficult to get coverage for her medical expenses.

Today I performed a benefit show in Second Life to help raise funds for Michelle. Many artists performed throughout the day and people are being very generous. We still need to do all we can. This is a recording of a live acoustic performance that I did on Gibson Island (yes, the guitar manufacturer) in Second Life. Performance date was 17 October 2008.

I learned of this from Dave Jackson at the Musicians Cooler podcast. He recently mentioned it again on a recent episode, so I thought I’d give it a go.

Here are three of the keywords that I’ve started using:
richpalmer: Yes, this one seems obvious. But the easiest way for me to use this is to have it serve as my virtual business card. If I’m in conversation with someone and find that I’ve forgotten my actual business cards, I can suggest that they text ‘richpalmer’ to 41411 and they will get an SMS message with my contact details.
richdesoto: This is the keyword for people that would like to know when I’m playing again in the Second Life environment. I’ve also placed this widget on my Rich Desoto blog page.
safesongs: Right now it simply points people to my music page for information about the Sing a Song for Safety CD. But I might start using it as a prompt for new information, newsletter updates, etc. Would be a great way to connect with people while on the go.
