DadLabs Approved Songs for Kids

Is My Music Purple Dinosaur or Dan Zanes?

This video is a bit old considering that the DadLabs guys keep quite busy with production. I felt, however, that it is a great video to share with visitors to my blog. Truthfully, I don’t know if my CD fits into the Dan Zanes style of kids music — or the purple dinosaur that they criticize so blatantly. (Which I found to be quite funny.) Whichever, this seemed to be good advice!

Don’t Forget My Kids’ CD!

Oh, don’t forget to click on the “Children’s CD” link above to find out more about my CD “Sing a Song for Safety“. This might make “the perfect Christmas gift!”

My CD for Kids – iMix Link in iTunes

I created a quick iMix link today to help you get to my CD for children. This CD contains songs to help you teach them about safety (while having fun with music!). I’ve been using these songs for many years to teach the children in my community’s schools. They’ve been very responsive and the retention of the messages has been proven!

This CD was recognized as “Best in Show” and “Third Place Overall” at the 39th Annual Meeting of the American Burn Association in San Diego, CA (March 20-23, 2007). The abstract for the project was published in the “Journal of Burn Care & Research” [March 2007 Supplement Volume 28, Number 2 (pp.S49-S186). 39th Annual Meeting of the American Burn Association: Abstracts].

Here’s a direct link to the CD in iTunes. A link will always be present in the border column of this blog.

Fun with Video

I’ve been toying around with the video production site “Animoto“. This is a very cool way to upload your own photos, used CC licensed photos from the web, and from other sources, while producing a video complete with music. They offer a music library (with some very good tunes) or you can upload files of your own. (Please remember to respect the license limitations of the artists.)

I’ve made a few shorts and then decided I’d make a full-length video to promote one of the songs from my children’s CD “Sing a Song for Safety.” Overall, the production came out well. A few complaints that I have, though… I wish that the software would tell you if there are too few photos to finish the complete song (it cut my tune short) and I wish that the audio didn’t sound “reprocessed”. I uploaded a 192kb mp3 file and it sounds as though it was re-compressed. I’m sure it was, but it shouldn’t “sound” as thought this had happened.

Anyway, this is a fun way to make some quick videos via the net. Perhaps I’ll get my employer to invest in a full account so that we can produce some quickie web videos to promote safety or to market my agency.

Also, they offer a “friends” setup in the account, but I’ve yet to find out how to access or add my friends to it. I know that a friend can send me a video via email and that will take me back to the site… perhaps it adds them in my friend directory at that point?

Review My CD for Kids?

My CD was recently added to the inventory and retail store at PayPlay.fm. They have a great interface for sampling the music and an easy to use store interface. Part of the service they offer to the artist is a widget that allows people to submit reviews of the album.

Would you mind taking a few minutes to send in a review of my CD “Sing a Song for Safety?”
You can preview tracks with the player included in this post.

I’ve been teaching safety for almost twenty years. This CD is the culmination of a ten-year project to help others teach the children in their lives about safety through song. I use these same songs in my education programs in preschools, churches, classrooms, park programs and more. If you are a parent, caregiver, school teacher, or public safety educator, please consider purchasing the CD for your kids! You can buy the physical CD or even downloads from my site at www.richpalmer.com.
