When Big Names Connect

It’s no secret that I’m a fan of the Beatles. Nor is it a secret that I’m heavily influenced by the product that Paul McCartney has generated for the past 37 years since moving on from the Beatles.
What impresses me most lately, though, is that McCartney has not faded into a quiet lifestyle of resting on his laurels. He continues to reinvent himself based on the opportunities that exist. He’s now in iTunes, he has left the big EMI label and is now on Starbucks new label, and he’s working in much the same fashion as we independent musicians do. He’s connecting. He’s reaching out through blogs and social media outlets including YouTube.
I bought Paul’s latest release “Memory Almost Full” from my eMusic.com account. I was surfing around looking at various independent releases and stumbled upon it. I found it the day it was released in the U.S. (5 June 2007). I would have never found his album in a retail outlet like this in the past. Welcome to the world of independent options, Paul.

Oh, by the way, Happy Belated Birthday. I meant to post his birthday on the actual date (18 June 2007), but I was busy being independent. [smirk] Sixty-five years old and still rockin’ the world.
If you want to see how people the world over have celebrated Paul’s birthday, check out this video. I found this from the direct link on Sir Paul’s web site. It is part of Starbuck’s way to help him celebrate. [Direct Link]
